For people that keep on requesting system information, one of these plus an Intel E8400 and 4 Gb ram will play the game beautifully:
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pl/37-1...Compare-Prices
You can see my review on them plus plenty of pictures here:
http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/forum...TOPIC_ID=36555
They are very cheap cards for the performance they give, I bought a pair in crossfire and am running everything maxed out plus 8x AA and never notice any slowdown. With a single one, dropping the AA down to 4x gives the same performance.
I had two spare pre order keys for a mammoth and a bow, each one picked up £45 on ebay, and I'm putting the money of that plus the sale of my previous 3870 towards this beast:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=750981
I think I'm all set for pew pew pew.
In order to get an AoC account, you need a retail key from a retail copy. You cant buy an account online.
Lets just calculate how much my graphics upgrade cost me - £300 for the two cards plus motherboard - £80 for my pre order keys, -£80 for my 3870, -£50 for my old motherboard (when they sell), plus I got £50 on my birthday last week...
So I paid £40 in the end

Hmm...
So I've played a bit now, and I'm not impressed. Graphics wise it's great, but beyond that it lacks...something. Can't put my finger on it though.
The forum community is fully retarded. It's like WoW OT forum x2. The mods....bad. They try to act like devs, and fail miserably at it.
I'll play the free month, and see how it goes.

QFT.
I think the gameplay lacks a bit of adrenaline thus far, granted, I am still only level 26. I still want to experience siege PvP and raids before I label the game as worthwhile or not.
So far I am rather impressed with the depth and variety of quests and the storyline, as they blow GW questing out of the water.
As for the forums, I mostly avoid them. 95% of the players think that everyone else is a carebear, and the ultimate dismissal is "go back to WoW".

I haven't played a great deal. They bring the servers down in my general play time (late evening)
The ingame communication is dire. You have general chat, then you have to create your own chat windows after that..? The UI is weird to say the least. After years of having 8 slots, and no being able to change them during battle, adjusting to having everything at your finger tips was weird.
The money system took some adjusting too. So many tin would equal 1 copper, so many copper would equal 1 silver and so many silver would equal 1 gold.
Grouping is non-exsistant. I hate solo player games. I don't touch games like Oblivion with a barge pole, and so far this is no different then a solo rpg. You might see the odd 2-3 people while questing, and thats about it.
I wanted open world PvP, and got instanced zones not so dissimilar to GW.
They expect you to solo to 20, yet provide little to no self healing. Self heals consist of eating beetroot and carrot cake..
I had high hopes, and they were ripped from me.
If you like games like Oblivion etc you'll love this, hate rpgs with a passion..avoid.
On a positive note, the quests were quite good. There weren't many kill xx amount of alligators etc there are a few, but as with any MMO that has to be expected.
The whole day/night thing was pretty good idea too. Basically for those that don't know, all your destiny quests (main quests) are done at night to avoid detection from the soldiers. Daytime questing is just for xp, and grouping if you can find anyone willing to group.
I'll leave it installed for now, but I think I wasted £60.
Half rant over. Good game for RPG lovers. I think I'll wait for WAR.

Interesting, I've had the opposite point of view from Malice. I like the change of pace and trade off of both instanced and non instanced area's. I've found many area's challenging since I don't always have someone to back me up. The game rocks, I just think Malice is not up for the challenge since he quit his first character. (Try using potions & consumables you find, or buy from the night time tavern merchant.)
I've seen lots of high level (high for Tortage) Mage classes. The combination of both GW style attack skills and WoW style combat build tree's is refreshing from both games.
Granted most of your options do not appear until after you leave Tortage.
I'm having an amazing time personally.
BTW, the Necro does rock, I see several ideas from GW that were implemented.

It's not a challenge though if you play melee. I was breezing through everything with my Barbarian.
My demo was mauled in combat. The HoX fared a little better, but still sucked up close due to cloth armour.
I'm not giving up, just venting
I'll be back in there tomorrow trying to find a guild worth joining. I can't stand solo play. If I can't interact with people, I get bored, no matter what game it is.
It doesn't help the servers being down during my play time. I have better things to do during the day, but due to forum QQ they moved server downtime.
Anyone else find the EU/US forum split a little dumb?

Just about every MMO forum is split between EU and US. I personally prefer to play solo and loved oblivion, and as a result am really enjoying AoC. I think it can be said that if you didnt like oblivion, then you wont like AoC. Also it might be difficult finding a group because the game hasnt actually launched yet in europe and there are hardly as many people playing it now as there will be in a months time. The game gets everything right for me, I have no complaints about the UI, it seems comfortable for me, although I want a LOT more inventory space . So glad that I get an extra 8 slots with my pre order bonus.
If you want a challenge, try a ToS or a PoM, they are uber weak at the start of the game.
Server downtime should be during AM hours really, not late PM.

I've generally never stuck with official forums. I tend to get the odd ban lol
All the people counting down the hours is funny. Some will love it, others will walk away in disgust. I'm still on the fence at this point.
I reinstalled GW just for something to do during server downtimes. I tried to get back into my RTS games, but couldn't. The lack of thinking playing GW screwed up my tactical brain.
Took a little over an hour to reinstall using -image. I was pleasantly surprised.

I need a guild. Thats the only way I'll see out a month. Can't be playing solo.
My pre-game guild is pants. Most are nothing but school kids (14-16), and 90% of them aren't even English.

I don't mind the EU/US forum split, mainly because I don't get on with most american forum go'ers it would seem. They really don't understand my humour.
I just got my copy today and I'm still patching at the mo.*sleep eludes me tonight*
I can sympathise with Malice though, playing alone can be tedious. I'm lucky I've got a good mate of mine playing too. Hope it gets better for you though, tis a shame to waste that money.

Not really a waste. My box hasn't even arrived yet. I could just pawn it on ebay in 6 months time, and make a little profit
my2cent - Thanks for the offer, but our times would clash. I generally don't play until 8pm GMT onwards, so thats like really early morning your time. I don't generally ever play during the day, work/life takes priority.

I live in the UK.
CE arrived this morning. No sign of the buddy geys though.
I went to patch the game expecting a xxx mb d/l, and guess what..? It's making me d/l the whole 13gb again. Be lucky if I can play before tomorrow now. Currently at 12hours, but my d/l speed gets cut in 4 hours due to 'peak times'
Bah RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing humbug!

I don't know if i'm right Malice, but i get the feeling you're disappointed because alot of things differ from GW and it takes a while getting used to?
I had the same problems when starting LOTRO. But then after adjusting to having to face targets in melee constantly, or having all my skills at my disposal etc, i could enjoy the game.
Most of those changes you listed i should be ready for, as LOTRO had similar differences from GW.
And as for not much grouping - HOORAY!
